Genmark Diagnostics (GNMK)

Coverage Initiated: February 2008

GenMark Diagnostics (GNMK)
(formerly known as Osmetech) produces the XT-8, a desktop device that does genetic screening. Designed for use in clinics, the technology is developed and sold to assist clinics and smaller hospitals with genetic tests of various sorts. The company is based in the US and UK, and traded on London's AIM exchange.

Genmark has superior technology and a fabulous business model based upon low cost of entry and recurring revenues. This is precisely the model that will succeed in the significant large clinic/small hospital market segment. GenMark needs to prove it can execute the promise of its technology and business model.

The company's recent IPO to list on the NASDAQ provides it with much need financial resources. If new management can do a better job communicating with customers and Wall Street, long-suffering shareholders might finally start seeing some return on their patient investment in the company.
